An article from grinza.com reports that Allergan Inc, maker of Botox cosmetic, will be offering a $50-off coupon for Botox treatments. Grinza.com cites chief executive David Pyott during Allergan’s fourth quarter conference, when he also mentioned that the company will be offering a $100 rebate on two syringes of Juvéderm.

The article states that Allergan chose coupons over cutting prices of the treatment to maintain profits on the product.

The article quotes Pyott, “It’s broadly known in the marketplace that coupons for encouraging use of product are useful tools. So, you can see that we’re responding to market conditions. This is the good way to get patients to come back into the [doctor’s] office.”

Allergan posted a 3.2% decrease in total product net sales for the quarter ended December 31, 2008 compared to the same quarter in 2007. Allergan also recently announced layoffs of approximately 5% of the company’s global headcount.
