North Carolina plastic surgeon Felmont F. Eaves III, MD, was elected the new President of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). The election of new officers was held on April 25, during the the society’s 2010 annual meeting in Washington, DC.

Eaves serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of North Carolina. An Aesthetic Society Member since 1999, Eaves is a partner at Charlotte Plastic Surgery and an attending surgeon at Carolinas Medical Center and Mercy Hospital. Dr. Eaves is the Former Chair of the Finance & Investment Committee, Patient Safety Committee, and Public Education Committee, as well as the past Administration Commissioner and Traveling Professor.

Eaves has twice been the recipient of the Aesthetic Society’s Simon Fredrick’s Award for Best Panelist; additionally, he is the past recipient of the Sherrell J. Aston Award for Best Presentation by a Candidate or Resident, and the Ted Lockwood Award for Excellence in Body Contouring.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center in Memphis, Eaves completed his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas in 1992. He relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, where he completed his plastic surgery training and joined the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine. He was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1993 and by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) in 1996.

ASERF President Announced

Also at the ASAPS meeting, Los Angeles plastic surgeon Geoffrey Keyes, MD, is the new President of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF), which is the research arm of the ASAPS. ASERF research helps to ensure the safety and effectiveness of new aesthetic (cosmetic) plastic surgical techniques and technologies by funding scientific research and clinical studies, according to an ASERF press release.

Keyes, who was born in Youngstown, Ohio, is currently in private practice in at The Keyes Surgery Center in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of the Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine, and interned at Barnes Hospital-Washington University in St. Louis. He served in two residency training programs at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago. In addition, he is board certified in plastic surgery and otolaryngology – head & neck surgery.

Keyes is also currently the President of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Los Angeles Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is the Vice President-Elect of the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).

Keyes helped develop the first internet relational database for quality assurance and peer review which has produced the largest studies on outpatient surgical care ever published, and he is helping ASERF to form the Research Alliance to facilitate research in the area of plastic surgery.
