Two new leaders and four board of directors members took office as the American Academy of Dermatology’s (AAD) 2017 Annual Meeting came to a close.

Detroit-based dermatologist Henry W. Lim, MD, FAAD, was elected AAD president, and Aventura, Fla-based Center for Clinical and Cosmetic Research co-director Brian Berman, MD, PhD, FAAD, was elected vice president. Both will serve 1-year terms.

In addition, Valerie D. Callender, MD, FAAD; Patricia K. Farris, MD, FAAD; Robert S. Kirsner, MD, PhD, FAAD; and Robert A. Weiss, MD, FAAD were elected to serve 4-year terms as members of the AAD’s board of directors according to a media release from the AAD.

Callender is professor of dermatology at Howard University Hospital College of Medicine in Washington, DC. Farris is clinical associate professor of dermatology at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Kirsner is chairman and Harvey Blank Professor of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Weiss is a clinical associate professor of dermatology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore.

The new officers and board members will lead the 18,000-member-strong AAD, and will also hold the same positions for the American Academy of Dermatology Association, the release continues.
