The American Society for Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently announced that Heather Furnas, MD has been selected as co-chair of the upcoming Plastic Surgery meeting. A founding partner of Sonoma County’s Plastic Surgery Associates, Dr. Furnas will also be play a crucial role in this year’s ASPS Reboot Camp. The upcoming Plastic Surgery meeting will be held October 6-10 in Orlando, Florida.

Founded in 1931, the ASPS is the world’s largest plastic surgery specialty organization. Representing 94% of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the United States, and more than a thousand plastic surgeons from around the world, the ASPS is considered a global authority on cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. The ASPS promotes quality patient care by encouraging advanced training and the highest standards in physician practice, ethics and research.

Every fall, the annual Plastic Surgery meeting attracts more than 3,000 attendees from around the world. These aesthetic professionals include plastic surgeons, residents, nurses, office managers and practice staff. The presentations and lectures offered cover the full range of innovative, plastic and cosmetic surgery topics such as architectural rejuvenation of the face, arm contouring and the major weight loss patient. Those in attendance at this year’s meeting will be eligible for 42.25 AMA PRA Category 1 continuing education credits.

The 2017 Plastic Surgery meeting will offer the third annual Reboot Your Practice management workshop, hosted by Co-Chair, Dr. Furnas, as well as C. Bob Basu, MD and Joshua Korman, MD. This unique portion of October’s meeting will provide advanced tactics for improving office efficiencies, personnel management and profit-generating tools for the plastic surgery practice. Dr. Furnas explains her own experience with the workshop, “Reboot Camp gives the practical advice on practice management that was missing for years.” She continues, “Its innovative structure with case studies, panels of experts and lot of interaction with the faculty gave me tools I put to use right away.”

Dr. Furnas serves as an adjunct assistant professor at Stanford University. She is an alumnus of Stanford University and UCLA School of Medicine and is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In 1991, she founded Plastic Surgery Associates along with her husband, Francisco Canales, MD. Today, Plastic Surgery Associates has two locations, in Santa Rosa and Novato, California.
