Minimally invasive body-slimming devices fall into a hot and growing category, and the competition is about to get even more heated with the launch of Cynosure Inc’s SculpSure™.
The laser is already US Food and Drug Administration-cleared for noninvasive lipolysis of the flanks and abdomen, and has scored CE Mark approval in Europe.
Cynosure expects to begin initial product sales in the fourth quarter of 2015 through both its US direct sales force and its direct subsidiaries in France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. In the EU, SculpSure will debut at the 24th European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Congress, which takes place October 7-11 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The new fat-busting laser has four applicators, which means doctors can treat four areas at once. The treatment takes about 25 minutes. No repeat treatments are needed. What’s more, it’s hands-free for the provider. Results are moderate and appear gradually in 4 to 6 weeks. Other energy-based devices in this category employ ultrasound waves, radiofrequency, or cryolipolysis to trim trouble spots.
