Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz — philosopher, social critic, and author who has been hailed by Time magazine as a "once-in-a-millennium scholar," questions whether or not cosmetic surgery is permissible, considering that it involves some measure of self-harm.

 

The Rabbi claims that the decision to proceed with cosmetic surgery is based on a comparison of a person's current physical and psychological "damage" when compared with the potential damages that such a surgery might cause.
