For any woman who appreciates the elasticated knickers which hide every lump and bump, there is now a more permanent solution.

Plastic surgeons are offering a procedure known as the ‘internal Spanx’ which sculpts the bottom under the skin.

The new procedure, which smooths, firms and lifts the derriere, is the latest fad in the cosmetic surgery world, which already offers bottom implants.

Doctors sew strips of elasticated mesh made of plastic across the bottom to reshape it from the inside and lift the buttocks.

The material, which is made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) and lasts forever, is attached to a bone and does not break down inside the body.

It is currently only available in Brazil and Portugal, but the doctor who discovered the procedure thinks it will become more popular around the world as word spreads.
