A recent study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology shows that fungal skin infections may be frequently misdiagnosed, due to the difficulties of correctly identifying similar skin conditions.

A survey of dermatologists in attendance at the 2016 Orlando Dermatology Aesthetic & Clinical Conference found that, when asked to anonymously assess 13 clinical images, just 50 percent of participants were able to correctly identify whether  the image showed a fungal skin infection.
