Botulinum Toxin—or Botox as you probably know it—is touted astheanti-wrinkle treatment, gifting all faces it comes into contact with a younger, fresher, wrinkle free exterior.

This month officially marks 15 years since it received FDA approval in Australia, and in that time it’s garnered much support and admiration (we are ranked as one of the world’s largest spenders on the injectable). To celebrate its birthday, we grilled Sydney’s leading injector and Cosmetic Nurse Natalie Abouchar on all the weird, wonderful and non-wrinkle related things that Botox can do for your face…

#1. Cure ‘orange peel’ chin

The contraction of the mentalis muscle on the chin creates an orange peel look on the surface of the skin, which, over time can lead to superficial lines and wrinkles permanently etched into the skin. “It will also give a witch like appearance to the chin when it contracts creating a deep horizontal line between the chin and the mouth called a mental crease,” explains Abouchar. Dysport injections can be used to smooth this area and prevent further wrinkling.

#2. Put an end to ‘Resting Bitch Face’

“We have a muscle which attaches to the corner of the mouth and extends down to the jaw,” says Abouchar. “When this muscle contracts normally, it can pull the corners of the mouth down giving that Resting Bitch Face appearance.” Botox can be injected to subtly lift the corners of the mouth.
