Botox is American men’s favorite cosmetic treatment, with about a quarter-million procedures last year, according to a survey by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

It’s Number 1 for women too, but men are much less interested in cosmetic medicine than women are, as shown by the relative infrequency of their visits to plastic surgeons and dermatologists.

On average, one man visits a plastic surgeon for every 10 women who do.

The ASAPS estimates that men underwent 143,000 operations by plastic surgeons last year, compared to 1.48 million for women.

Men got an estimated 225,000 Botox treatments last year, compared with 2.2 million for women, the survey says.

But the numbers add up, especially factoring in the growing popularity of noninvasive injections, such as Botox and fillers. Overall, men had a total of 750,000 cosmetic procedures last year, according to the ASAPS survey.
