Health Canada has released a statement that the labeling information of BOTOX® and BOTOX Cosmetic® will now include the risk of distant toxin spread, although the federal department notes that there have been no medically confirmed cases of distant toxin spread related to Botox or Botox Cosmetic in Canada.

The statement follows a recent safety review of distant toxin spread from Botox and Botox Cosmetic products conducted by Health Canada. Health Canada worked with the manufacturer, Allergan, to revise the labeling of these products on the Canadian market.

Botox and Botox Cosmetic are the only botulinum toxin products marketed in Canada.

Health Canada has plans to continue monitoring the safety of Botox and Botox Cosmetic products, informing Canadians if new safety information arises.
