The Selphyl system may be just what the doctor ordered when it comes to rejuvenating the tear trough area or under eye hollows, according to New York City dermatologist Bruce Katz, MD, a clinical professor of dermatology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and director of the Cosmetic Surgery & Laser Clinic at Mount Sinai Medical Center and the Juva Skin & Laser Center in New York City.

The Selphyl system collects and isolates platelet-rich plasma, which can stimulate collagen production. Katz will discuss his findings regarding the Selphyl system at the 10th Annual South Beach Symposium which will be held on February 16-20 at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel.

Katz analyzed qualitative and quantitative changes in the tear trough in 10 patients aged 37 to 65 years via Quantificare 3D camera. The study examined volume loss and volume gain following Selphyl injection, depth of the tear trough and texture of the skin. Patients showed consistent improvements in visual appearance and quantitative measures in the tear trough area after 3 months, the study showed. Moreover, the treatment was safe and well tolerated. The study will also include a 6 month follow-up to analyze ongoing improvement.
