The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) today announced James Matas, MD, as the president-elect of the Society. Matas has been an ASAPS member since 1997, and currently is in private practice in Orlando, Fla.
Matas says he will rely on the experience he gained serving as President of the Florida Society of Plastic Surgeons and ASAPS treasurer. He adds that while he has enjoyed his time serving the needs of his current position as the chair of the Publications Committee, he is looking forward to following in the footsteps of those successful presidents before him and leading ASAPS into another successful year.
One goal Matas highlights is continuing the momentum the society has created through the promotion of education and safety to members and patients alike. “The mission of our Society is the advancement of the science, art and safe practice of aesthetic plastic surgery among qualified plastic surgeons as well as serving the public interest by providing accurate and timely information regarding aesthetic plastic surgery and promoting patient safety. As the future President of ASAPS, I will continue our efforts to accomplish these goals,” he says.
Matas earned his medical degree from the University of Miami Medical School. He then completed his general surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and his plastic surgery residency at the Indiana University Medical Center. Matas is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and currently serves as the book review editor for the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
