GE Healthcare has introduced Centricity Advance, a vendor-hosted software system for small, independent physician practices.

The application comprises electronic health records, practice management and patient portal modules. It is a completely new application created from the ground-up to be hosted and delivered over the Internet, according to the Waukesha, Wis.-based vendor. The product does not include a personal health records module but is compatible with several, a spokesperson says.

GE Healthcare recently acquired physician vendor MedPlexus and both vendors at the time were developing remotely hosted technology, which now is Centricity Advance. Start-up costs range from $4,000 to $9,000 per site, with monthly subscription fees of $300 to $800 per site. Component pricing enables a physician to pick and choose modules, although that may prove cost prohibitive, according to the company.
